OPP report rash of Gravenhurst break-ins

Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received multiple complaints recently from residents in Gravenhurst about their vehicles being entered during the nighttime hours and in some cases, their valuables stolen from inside. Many homes are equipped with home surveillance systems and victims are able to provide police with images.

This type of criminal activity is perpetrated by people looking for money, gift cards or credit cards and/or items that are easy to sell or trade from inside of an unlocked vehicle. In most cases, simply locking the vehicle doors is adequate prevention.

Further tips to protect your property:

  • Remove any valuables such as electronics and tools from your vehicle
  • Remove change or money from view
  • Park your vehicle in a well lit area
  • Invest in home surveillance
  • Install motion lights

It is important to call police to report this activity when you learn of it, even if the suspect is not successful in stealing anything. Often more than one vehicle will be affected in a neighbourhood and your information could help solve another crime.
