A Bracebridge man was sentenced to jail time in court recently after refusing to take a breathalyzer test.
Roarke McCooeye, 24, of Bracebridge, pled guilty to refusing a demand for a breath sample stemming from an incident on Dec. 15, 2022.
Court heard that on that day Bracebridge OPP officers were on general patrol on Muskoka Road 118 East, in Bracebridge. Just after 10 p.m., officers observed a pickup truck drive past them on Uffington Road. The driver, McCooeye, was known to police as a suspended driver.
He was pulled over and police smelled alcohol and observed several empty cans of beer inside, court heard.
Arrested and asked to take a breathalyzer, McCooeye replied, “I won’t be blowing into a machine,” court heard.
Court heard McCooeye has a prior impaired driving-related conviction.
He was sentenced to 30 days in jail, to be served on weekends, and a two-year driving ban.
