A Gravenhurst man whose midday scuffle with local law enforcement was captured on video is now out of jail after serving a 41-day stint.
Appearing recently in Bracebridge court, Joseph Belanger-Barnes, 26, pled guilty to assaulting a peace officer and breaching the terms of both a release order and a probation order.
Court heard that on April 20 at roughly 3 pm Bracebridge OPP executed a traffic stop on Sharp Street in Gravenhurst. The officers reported that Belanger-Barnes appeared agitated and attempted to pull away from the officer. He then began yelling that he needed to get to his child’s school and grabbed the officer’s wrist and attempted to push her off. More officers attended and he was eventually subdued.
In his car police found a .22 bullet and multiple illegal knives. Belanger-Barnes was prohibited from having weapons at the time, stemming from previous firearms charges.
Court heard that he was also returning from a residence that he was prohibited from attending under court orders.
Belnager-Barnes breached the court orders less than one day after they had been issued, court heard.
He was sentenced to the 41 days he had served waiting for his court appearance.
