Village of Windermere raises more than $83,000 for Terry Fox Run

Calling it the little village that could, District Chair Jeff Lehman spoke about the 25th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run in Windermere on Sunday, and the astounding $83,000 they raised.

“It was the 25th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run in Windermere on Sunday and while there are Terry Fox Runs in many communities including all communities in the District of Muskoka and across the country, there was something awfully special about Windermere run,” said Lehman at the September 16 District Council meeting. Lehman asked Councillor Allen Edwards to elaborate on the run.

Edwards thanked Lehman for opening the run and praised the organizers. He said the run raised $83,951, with 105 people signing up. He also said that the Windermere run has raised more than $675,000 in the past 25 years.

Lehman said the funds raised and efforts put forward by the small community “just goes to the depth of commitment and the strength of community in Windermere, and I just thought it was worth mentioning because it puts Windermere in the top 10 and how knows, we don’t know yet, but could be in the top five of all the small runs… in all of Canada… that’s a remarkable accomplishment,” said Lehman. “I know there’s a lot of people who look admiringly on what a little Windermere is able to accomplish so congratulations.”
