A worker injured during a major construction project in Gravenhurst has succumbed to his injuries.
Earlier today a spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development confirmed that a worker had died as a result of injuries sustained on June 23, 2023 and an investigation has been launched.
According to Ministry spokesperson Jennifer Rushby, the employer under investigation is Design Exteriors Inc., and the constructor is Greystone Project Management Inc.
“On June 28th 2023 the ministry was notified that the worker had succumbed to their injuries,” said Rushby. “Sincere condolences go out to the workers family, friends and coworkers.”
Rushby said a Ministry inspector and engineer have now attended the scene.
As of July 6, the Ministry has issued three requirements to the employer and three requirements to the constructor. Rushby said the Ministry cannot reveal exactly what those requirements are at this time to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
“Ministry investigations are detailed and thorough, and may take weeks or months to complete depending on the complexity of the investigation,” she said.
Greystone Project Management offered their condolences and said they are unable to comment further due to the ongoing investigation.
“We are saddened to confirm that there was an unfortunate incident involving a worker of a subcontractor at one of our job sites recently. The worker succumbed to his injuries and we offer our sincere condolences to everyone that knew him. We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation so we are unable to comment further at this time,” the company said in a statement via email.
In May of 2022, Greystone began work on the Alexander Muskoka Residence located on Isaac Street in Gravenhurst. The retirement facility is expected to contain 95 units when completed and is scheduled to be finished in spring of 2024.
