Alzheimer Society Expands Adult Day Program Following Strong Community Response

Following an overwhelmingly positive response to its new Adult Day Program, the Alzheimer Society is pleased to announce that a second session will begin on Monday, July 27. The Adult Day Program was created to provide individuals living with dementia with a stimulating, supportive place to spend the day and to offer caregivers much-needed respite. Caring for someone living with dementia is a rewarding yet demanding role that often requires around-the-clock attention, leaving little time for caregivers to tend to their own needs.

The Alzheimer Society recognizes the physical, emotional, and mental demands that caregivers face each day. By providing several hours of reliable support in a safe and caring environment, the program allows caregivers the opportunity to attend appointments, manage personal responsibilities, connect with family and friends, or simply take time to rest and recharge. This essential respite helps caregivers maintain their own well-being while continuing to provide compassionate care for the individual they support.

Equally important is the peace of mind the program provides. Caregivers can feel confident knowing the individual in their care is spending the day in a safe, welcoming environment where they are participating in gentle exercise, crafts, trivia, active games, music, and social activities while enjoying nutritious snacks and a delicious lunch. The result is a meaningful day for participants and valuable support for the people who care for them.

The positive impact of the program is reflected in the feedback shared by caregivers:

“My wife feels she is very fortunate to have signed up for the first Alzheimer Society Day Program at The Pines in Bracebridge. It gives her a chance to socialize, and she always feels refreshed from the positive energy there…They greet participants with open arms and smiles and make everyone feel welcome and safe.”

“The staff and volunteers are very committed and bring so much knowledge and enthusiasm to the program. They make the day extremely fun with many social and cognitive activities for all of the participants. An amazing program which I do hope continues for many years to come.”

The second session begins on July 27 and spaces are now available.

The program is located at 98 Pine St, Bracebridge. Participants may attend either Mondays or Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during an 8-week session.
