Bracebridge man guilty of threatening probation officers

A Bracebridge man who told his probation officer she should have her throat slit added to his considerable criminal record in a Bracebridge courtroom recently.

Travis Gostick, 33, pled guilty to uttering a threat to cause bodily harm and failing to comply with the terms of his probation.

Court heard that on April 24, 2023, Gostick was under an order to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. However, on that day he texted derogatory comments to multiple probation officers and said, “they should have their throats slit.”

Gostick was set for a probation meeting that day and he was arrested.

Court heard that Gostick now has 28 convictions for failing to comply with probation orders.

Crown Willow Petersen requested Gostick be sentenced to six months in custody.

“They don’t do that job to be threatened by the people they are attempting to help,” Petersen said of the probation officers.

The Justice said they would require some time to determine the appropriate sentence.

A gangster. It’s deplorable that people think they can threaten others because they are unhappy with the situation. Detention is necessary because he will act on the threats sooner or later.

Let me help him out with his deliberations, let’s give him a year in prison for every time he has failed to comply with a probation order. Hum, 28 years sounds about right.
