Hefty fine for impaired driving on suspended license

A Bracebridge man picked the wrong time for a pit stop, a courtroom heard recently.

Jordan Smith, 35, recently appeared in a Bracebridge courtroom and pleaded guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml.

Court heard that on Feb. 21, 2023, at roughly 9:30 pm a police officer encountered Smith at a convenience store on Cedar Lane in Bracebridge. The officer smelled alcohol on Smith and proceeded to pull him over a short time later.

Smith admitted to having consumed alcohol and subsequently blew a reading of 190 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood – double the legal limit.

Court heard Smith has a record for a “related offence” and his license was already suspended at the time of his arrest.

He was sentenced to a $3,000 fine, a 12-month driving ban and 12 months of probation.

So he is banned from driving which he was currently banned from. Am I the only one that feels like this is a little like the definition of insanity.
