A Gravenhurst man has found himself under house arrest following a pair of violent incidents.
Appearing in a Bracebridge courtroom Steven Doherty, 47, pled guilty to assaulting a police officer and simple assault.
Court heard that on Oct. 6, 2022, police received a 911 call from a Gravenhurst residence. When members of the Bracebridge OPP arrived to investigate, Doherty was in the driveway. The police asked to be allowed into the residence and Doherty grabbed and pushed the officers, court heard. The officers used physical force to protect themselves and Doherty was eventually arrested and put in the back of a police car. As an officer attempted to read Doherty his rights, he spit in the officer’s face, court heard.
Then on June 21, 2023, police received a call from a Bracebridge resident who said her husband had been assaulted by Doherty. Court heard Doherty and a neighbour were in an ongoing dispute regarding noise. Doherty approached the victim in his truck and punched him in the face through the open window.
Court heard Doherty has a dated criminal record.
He was sentenced to 45 days under house arrest.
