There was a protest and a counter-protest this morning at Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School in Bracebridge.
A group billing itself as the 1 Million March 4 Children was advocating for the elimination of sexual orientation and gender identity curriculums in Canada.
In response, the North Simcoe Muskoka District Labour Council has organized a Solidarity With 2slgbtqia+ Community Rally.
There was a visible police presence between the two protests.

I find it disturbing and upsetting that the lovely harmonious town I grew up in has become polarized with protests. Activists and agitators on both sides need to go home and find some other way of advancing their opinions.
Stomping in public carrying signs changes nothing but it creates discord and animosity. I strongly suggest that the attendees of these protests quietly focus your attentions and raise your concerns with elected representatives.
How about you sign up on twitter, now known as X and express your opinions there.

A previous comment expressed concern about protests in general, and suggested people simply contact their local elected representatives to express their views, rather than demonstrating on our streets. In an ideal world, that might be effective, however our democratic process is very broken and contacting elected representatives can often be futile. Unfortunately, it has become the norm that our elected representatives serve to wishes of their leader, not the wishes of those that elected them to office, and the ones paying their salary. I understand why this happens as challenging a leader often leads to dismissal from the party – which is political suicide. Democracy shouldn’t work this way. People have lost trust in the ‘democratic’ process because it no longer works and doesn’t provide proper representation for the people. So, protests happen and until our system changes dramatically they will continue to happen. People need to be listened to and while protests may cause inconvenience to some, they are an attempt to get heard.
