Send a Girl to Camp: YWCA Muskoka increases camp access for local youth

1 in 3 campers required financial assistance in 2025

YWCA Muskoka has launched its annual Send a Girl to Camp campaign to ensure local girls can access Girlz Unplugged Summer Day Camps and YWCA youth programs throughout the school year.

Last summer, one in three campers required financial assistance to attend Girlz Unplugged — a number the organization says reflects the growing financial pressures facing Muskoka families.

“Summer camp is a rite of passage for many kids, especially here in Muskoka. But for too many families, cost keeps camp out of reach,” said Amy Jones, Director of Youth Programs at YWCA Muskoka. “The Send a Girl to Camp campaign helps us keep camp fees low and ensures every girl who wants to attend has the opportunity.”

YWCA Muskoka’s youth programs focus on building confidence, critical thinking, and resilience. Through crafts, role‑play, discussions, and plenty of fun, participants explore topics such as online safety, body image, gender stereotypes, and healthy relationships.

Jones says the impact of donations extends well beyond the summer months.

“These programs don’t just support youth now — they build lasting skills young people carry with them as they grow into teens and adults,” she said. “Funds raised this June will also help us expand programming into the school year this fall.”

My daughter has benefited widely with this program. She continues to build her self-esteem, confidence and boundaries,” according to a parent of a Girlz Unplugged participant.

“After Girlz Unplugged, I no longer think badly about myself. I learned that I am special in my own way. Now I can talk about my feelings without worrying. I am now a girl who loves and has a lot of self-confidence. I like how I am now since Girlz Unplugged,” stated a 10-year-old Girlz Unplugged participant.

The campaign runs throughout June. To Send a Girl to Camp donate online at: www.ywcamuskoka.com/Send-A-Girl-To-Camp
