Wayback Wednesday: Gravenhurst, 1895

A reader identifies the photo from “Light of Other Days” as coming from 1895, eight years after the Great Fire of 1887.

On the night of Sept. 21 to 22, 1887, a massive fire ravaged Gravenhurst, leaving 50 families homeless and destroying more than 40 businesses.

    It looks like the school….and the white church is the now converted hairsalon, at the top right it looks like the Gilmore Hotel

    Great post! I was wondering what that tall building was on the left side? I don’t recognize it, I assume it’s long gone. Does anyone have any bearing as to identifiable buildings here ? I can’t tell where anything is from this great photo
