A Bracebridge man facing serious charges in connection with a fatal Highway 11 crash that claimed the life of a Toronto motorcyclist has been returned to custody after allegedly violating the conditions of his release.
Donald Austin, 37, was arrested last weekend in Bracebridge and is now facing additional charges of failing to comply with a release order and resisting arrest. According to CTV News, the charges stem from a police response to a family dispute.
The court documents allege Austin consumed alcohol despite a court-ordered condition prohibiting him from doing so while on release. He is also accused of resisting arrest during the police investigation. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
Austin had been granted bail earlier this year following a review in Superior Court. The release came after he had spent several months in custody following his arrest in October 2025. As part of the bail order, Austin was released under strict conditions, including a $40,000 surety pledge, abstaining from alcohol and wearing a GPS ankle monitor.
The original charges against Austin stem from a fatal collision on Highway 11 South near Line 15 in Oro-Medonte Township on the night of Oct. 20, 2025.
Police allege Austin was driving a pickup truck involved in a road-rage incident that ended with the death of 27-year-old Toronto resident Harnoor Singh, who was riding a motorcycle at the time. Emergency crews were dispatched after multiple 911 callers reported a person lying on the highway shortly after 10:30 p.m.
The incident drew significant public attention across Central Ontario due to the nature of the allegations and the tragic loss of a young motorcyclist.
Austin continues to face multiple charges related to the fatal crash, including impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in a virtual Bracebridge courtroom next week.
In January 2022 Austin was arrested for impaired following an incident on Hwy 11 in Bracebridge. On that day just before 6:00 p.m. police, along with Muskoka EMS, responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 11 South just north of Taylor Road in Bracebridge after a vehicle left the roadway and flipped, coming to rest in the ditch. Officers arrived and were able to free the driver, who was assessed at scene by paramedics. Austin was arrested at the scene.
