The Town of Bracebridge has announced that on Tuesday Coun. Rick Maloney is set to be appointed Mayor of Bracebridge.

Earlier today the Town announced that on Tuesday a bill will be put forward for Maloney to be appointed Mayor on Tuesday prior to the start of regular general committee meeting.

Maloney announced in January that he will run for Mayor in the upcoming fall election. He made the decision following former Mayor Graydon Smith’s decision to move into provincial politics.

Under the laws of the Municipal Act, council can fill the mayor’s seat from within the current Council

Rick Maloney is one of the District councillors fooled into making a massive mistake at the airport.
    https://doppleronline.ca/huntsville/district-council-finally-makes-a-decision-on-airports-grass-runway/

In spite of all aviation professionals and even the latest consultant stating building beside instead of on top of a runway is the best and cheapest solution for the mysterious, single new tenant.
    Not all councillors were fooled.
Just the majority. 13 to 9.
It seems unelected staff runs the District not elected councillors.
It seems councillors will green light anything from staff.
    No matter how ridiculous.

A crown is more fitting for Maloney’s head. A terrible choice. The town is a perfect example of cronyism. Taxpayers suffer.

Is it me or do others also think the town is run by the Sopranos?

    Worst possible choice for Mayor.
Just like Graydon Smith and Doug Ford, Rick Maloney is all about development at any cost.
Pave the greenbelt and turn Muskoka forests into Mississauga barrens as fast as possible.

Toronto protects their trees better than Muskoka.
There are beautiful homes surrounded by large trees near downtown Toronto.

Bracebridge? Neighbours and residents, turtles and conservation can GTH.
    Forget zoning and planning rules.
    That’s all just red tape.

Developers know rules will be changed to suit whatever they want.
    Not the other way around.
    Build anything, anywhere.

Starting with wiping out trees needlessly in many areas of Bracebridge, for example.
Leaving it completely barren for many years.
Across from Home Depot, near the new high school and most recently at Travelodge along the road where you can’t build anyway.
    Disaster.
    Worst possible choice for Mayor.
